This week, we have a conversation with Ginger Coyote, editor of Punk Globe Magazine and lead singer of the White Trash Debutantes. Ginger started Punk Globe in 1977, bringing to the nation some of punk’s greatest acts before they were famous. Ginger is also the lead singer of the White Trash Debtantes, has been in music documentaries, videos and a Mad TV sketch among other things. She is also a huge part of punk music history. Our interview with Ginger leads off hour 2 of the show.

During our conversation, Ginger and I discuss:

  • Why she started Punk Globe in 1977
  • The punk music scene over the years
  • Growing Punk Globe into a national, and now worldwide publication
  • Stories from the early punk days in San Francisco

Tony Hadley: “New album coming”

Before starting his mini-tour in the United States earlier this week, former Spandau Ballet lead singer Tony Hadley revealed during an interview on the internationally-syndicated Revenge of the 80s Radio show that he plans to release a new album next spring.

While many of his past solo albums heavily featured covers, Hadley says this one will have all original songs. Hadley, who has recorded in many genres of music since Spandau Ballet’s breakup, tells Revenge of the 80s he enjoys experimenting in the studio and the new collection’s sound will have be “dance pop-rock with a quirky edge to it.”

During that same radio conversation, Hadley discusses his thoughts on his solo career, the importance of cool suits and a bit of Spandau Ballet history. The full interview can be heard in hour two of the podcast below:

In hour 2, our guest is Peter Dunne, who was known as Peter Bilt when he was both the guitarist for Pearl Harbor and the Explosions and a solo artist in the 80s. He is a freelance producer/voiceover specialist and recently, he collaborated with Debora Iyall on her new CD, Stay Strong.

In hour 1, we will play new music from Stan Ridgway and classic cuts by REM, Icehouse, The B-52s, Strawberry Switchblade and more.

The Stan Ridgway Band‘s 2011 tour is headed to the Hudson Valley (NY) and Tri-State area, including a stop on Thursday, May 5th at the Turning Point Cafe in Piermont, NY. We will be there to cover the event and hope to see you. Tickets are still available; you can get them here.
