Rescued by the 80s at the annual New York Pet Fashion Show

Dogs, Cats and (yes) Chickens were dressed in the finest 80s-style fashions at this year’s New York Pet Fashion Show, which took place on February 11th at the Hotel Pennsylvania. Organizers Ada Nieves and Gregg Oehler themed thisDSC_0273 year’s Fashion Week event for furry friends “Rescued by the 80s” as the event raised money for The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals.
Several well-known designers of animal attire were in attendance to show off their 80s-inspired creations on the runway. Models included dogs, cats, a chicken and a bearded dragon. Inspirations for the outfits ranged from musicians of the 80s to television shows to popular games of the time. Here are some on and off-runway stars of the show:

Rescued by the 80s was highlighted by Nieves, Oehler and MC Maria Mellito of Q104.3 FM presenting the Golden Paw Awards. Among the recipients were:

  • Humanitarian of the Year: Actress/philanthropist Rachel Grant
  • Documentary Producer of the Year: Rachel Grant for “Give Me Shelter”
  • Legacy Award – Brock, the inspiration behind Pilots and Paws
  • Shelter Organization of the Year – Whitney Knowlton’s Last Chance Animal Rescue

Among the unique pet service vendors there was Creations by C & C, a line of pet jewelry co-founded by Olympic Gold Medalist Dominique Moceanu and her partner Wendy Campbell, seen below.
