One of the great things about running a classic alternative radio show from the 1980s is being able to play the wide selection of music that qualifies. Classic Alternative is thought of, by many, as new wave music, its pop-crossovers and offshoots like “New Romantic” or “Darkwave.” The 1980s was a time where experimentation earned an artist anything between a rabid cult following to an interesting landmark in music history. Alternative radio stations actually played “alternative music” back then, until the industry commercialized the moniker and made the average teen confuse commercial grunge-pop-rock with real alt-rock. Around now one might imagine me as a grandfather sitting on a rocking chair spouting memories of $1.00 per gallon gas, large cellular phones and quality thin ties so therefore, I will digress.

While I promised an interview with Caron Maso Murray of The Little Girls for this week’s show, a home emergency forced me to postpone playing our conversation on the band’s new albums and Caron’s solo performances. I greatly apologize for that adn I will have that interview on next week.
This week, we will replay last year’s discussion with Caron about the history of The Little Girls and the relatively recent release of 31 Pop Flavors and The Clear Album.
I apologize for any inconvenience.

MTV and dance/choreography legend Toni Basil is a woman for all music genres. While most know her from her 1982 hit song “Mickey,” Basil has been on the music scene since the 1960s. A memorable lost classic performed by the energetic sensation is the melancholy “I’m 28″ from 1966, which was put out as a B-side to her “Breakaway” single. Her non-”Mickey” 80s repertoire includes “Shopping A to Z,” “Over My Head” and the Love classic “Little Red Book.”
According to her website, Basil will receive the Living Legend of Hip-Hip honor at the Hip Hop International awards ceremony on August 2nd in Las Vegas.

Here are some interesting highlights around the 80s Blogosphere and the rest of the Internet:
- The Boston Globe‘s Sarah Rodman reminisces about the classic are Modern Rock station WBCN’s impact on her through the late 70s and early 80s
- Pop Dose‘s Ted Asregadoo has an interesting post on how some classic rockers of the 70s tried to work with the new synth sound of the 80s.
- Clicks and Pops discusses Julian Cope
- …and Back to the 80s has a quite interesting “Top 10″ list.

It was 30 years ago on the date of this post that a Chicago White Sox promotion became a controversial part of music history and a landmark in time.
The Chicago White Sox wanted to bring more people into its Comiskey Park home and teamed up with area DJ Steve Dahl, who is given credit for the term “Disco Sucks” which adorned bumper stickers and t-shirts all over America at the time, to dream up the idea of “Disco Demolition Night.”

First, I would like to apologize to all of our blog visitors about the lack of new posts; I have been very busy with another radio show I produce, which is about to be nationally syndicated. This has taken up a large amount of my time. Things will be back to normal very soon and I thank you for your patience.
This week, we catch up on some requests, which can be made by e-mailing us at radio@revengeofthe80sradio.com, during our first hour. The second hour is dedicated to classic alternative dance music from the 80s from artists including Clan of Xymox, Grandmaster Flash, Amazulu and Strawberry Switchblade.,
