One of several superb classic alternative albums that have been lost and are currently being held captive by a record company is Don’t Take My Coconuts by The Coconuts. In an effort to bring it back, Fans of The Coconuts are asking EMI to re-release the collection with a petition that you are invited to sign.

The Coconuts - Don't Take My Coconuts

While I support this effort, I am not the person who initiated the petition. That honor goes to a gentleman named Mick Cooper.

This Week on Revenge of the 80s: Holly Beth Vincent

Posted by admin on September 29, 2009 | No comments

This week’s guest on Revenge of the 80s is Holly Beth Vincent, who was the front-woman for Holly and the Italians. While the band was short-lived, Vincent has a very distinct place in music history as one of the rare women of punk/alternative music at the time. She, along with the likes of Nikki Corvette, Terri Nunn, Patty Donahue and Debbie Harry introduced a new breed of female leads who commanded attention and could turn it up to be as powerful as their male counterparts, yet with an illuminating femininity that captivated the alternative music world.

Holly Beth Vincent’s best-known tracks include “Tell That Girl to Shut Up,” her cover of “For What it’s Worth” and a recording of “I Got You Babe” with Joey Ramone.

Posted by admin on September 19, 2009 | No comments

Center>

This week’s Revenge of the 80s Radio podcast is up and available at the end of this post. After driving for several hours to and from my vacation spot last week, it was only natural to play some of the great driving songs of the 1980s on this week’s show. These tracks included songs about driving, cars, scenery and classic alternative music we like to blast on our CD player while at the wheel.

Artists featured in this weeks show include Men Without Hats, Voice of the Beehive, The Kings, Pearl Harbor and the Explosions and Nikki and the Corvettes. We also played new cuts from Josie Cotton, ABC and Stan Ridgway with Pietra Wexstun. <.p>[podcast]http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/Rev091809h1.mp3[/podcast][podcast]http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/Rev091809h2.mp3[/podcast]
