Tonight, in celebration of Halloween, Revenge of the 80s Radio will feature classic Halloween songs of the era. We might be stretching a bit on some of them as far as the Halloween theme goes, as we play some horror-party tracks from artists including Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, the B-52s and Roky Erickson with a post-80s cut from Andy Prieboy and a selection from Josie Cotton‘s most recent album, Movie Disaster Music.
Revenge of the 80s airs live on Friday nights 7-9ET on Q99.1FM in the Hudson Valley (www.wtbq.com); on Wednesdays 12noon Melbourne, AUS time on Radio 80s 87.6FM; Weekday mornings 7-9am AUS time on Seymour FM; Wednesday nights 6-8pm (Eastern US) and Saturdays 7-9pm on The Volt radio (Canada). Podcasts are available on Saturdays after the live show.
The podcast for our 10/23 show is up and available at the end of this post. This week, we re-air our April 2008 conversation with Stan Ridgway. This takes place before he released “Silly Songs for Kids – Volume 1″ with his wife and musical partner, Pietra Wexstun. Stan talks about his career, music, and we delve into his mind as a performer/creator.
Tonight’s show features a re-broadcast of our April 2008 interview with musical genius Stan Ridgway. This was before he released his EP (and soon to be LP) Silly Songs for Kids Volume 1. Stan talks about his career, music, and we delve into his mind as a performer/creator. A master story teller, Ridgway still tours constantly and works on several projects with his wife and long-time musical partner, Pietra Wextun.

While September and October have been busy months for me on several other projects, there will be more coming to Revenge of the 80s Radio and this blog very soon. While I will continue to post Top 10 lists, CD reviews and other features, I am in the midst of compiling a list of the Top 50 Cover songs of the 1980s. Unlike the Top 10s where I post the entire list, each song will have its own tribute.
You, as visitors to this site and listeners to Revenge of the 80s, are invited to offer your suggestions for the Top 50 Cover Songs fo the 80s List. You can either post your picks as a comment, e-mail them to me at radio@revengeofthe80sradio.com or log on to our Facebook page and leave a comment there.
As you may know, a Revenge of the 80s list is not entirely conventional as far as chart performance goes, our main criteria for the Top 50 cover songs of the 80s are (but not limited to):
The quality of the performance
The difficulty in playing and singing the music
The band and/or singer’s ability to put their touch on the song, making it sound like one of their own
The track’s significance in the history of the artist or band recording the cover
The song’s importance within the genre of classic alternative music
Fans of L.A. roots music recently mourned the loss of one of the more prominent fiddler/songwriters of the genre earlier this month, Amy Farris, at the young age of 40. The in-demand session musician was also considered a rising star as her career took of after moving to the City of Angels from Austin, Texas. In addition to her solo projects, Farris had worked with several famous musicians including founding Blaster Dave Alvin and X’s Exene Cervenka, who will headline a special tribute concert in her honor on Wednesday, October 21st at the Continental Club.
The podcast for our special edition Revenge of the 80s Radio re-broadcast is up and available at the end of this post.

Our discussion leads off the second hour of the show. We also have music from classic alternative artists including Mental As Anything, strange Advance, Kim Wilde and Romeo Void.
