With several albums and hit songs under his belt, The Beat founder Paul Collins remembers how important the local record store was and still is to our culture and to musicians. Collins and The Beat headlined a lineup of local rockers at Greenwich Village’s landmark Generation Records to show support as part of National Independent Record Store Day.

Among the various woodwind solos Ham will always be remembered for are the sax interlude from “Who Can It Be Now?” and the flute melody in “Down Under.”

Paul Collins, “The King of Power Pop,” will headline an all-day Record Store Day event at Generation Records on Thompson Street in New York City on Saturday, April 21. It will be the fourth annual celebration of independent record stores at the Greenwich Vilage landmark.
